Like they say by the end of the piece. It's all about the pricing, it's not just having a drug that works but having one people can actually have access to.
PrEP is really cheap, and it is covered by most healthcare programs around the world. But there's a lot of stigma surrounding it, and in my experience there's a lot of people that either don't know about it or think it's too much hassle.
A shot every six months would be ideal, but it wouldn't be ideal if you gotta pay thousands of dollars a shot. We'll see how it goes.
The break even point is around $360 per shot. PrEP costs ~$2/pill.
Arguably a slightly higher cost, like $400 or even $500, is worth it given the higher effectiveness and the fact that you don't run the risk of forgetting it.
Cheaper is definitely better.
Impressive results. PreP is already a major game changer, if you can move to a 6 month injection instead this could really help a lot of people.
